Jeff Drott’s primary responsibilities include working with secondary mortgage market participants to understand their business models, their liquidity and capital needs, and their appetite for residential whole loans and mortgage servicing rights. In this role, Mr. Drott also finds loans for the MountainView Mortgage Opportunities Funds to purchase. Before joining MountainView in 2010, Jeff worked for three of the company’s competitors and for Security National, one of MountainView’s predecessors. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan.
Derek Katz Derek Katz
Managing Director
Working out of MountainView’s New York office, Derek Katz is primarily responsible for sourcing residential whole loan portfolios and identifying trading opportunities for the MountainView Mortgage Opportunities Funds. Mr. Katz also works with clients on the valuation, sale and purchase of residential mortgage servicing rights portfolios. In this role, Derek acts as an intermediary between buyers and sellers and provides insight on the secondary residential mortgage market. Before joining MountainView in 2008, Derek was a director in the Asset Securitization and Finance Group at Natixis Capital Markets and was responsible for all aspects of whole loan and mortgage-backed finance, including the origination and placement of mortgage-backed securities, transaction management and contract finance, portfolio and servicing oversight, and due diligence management. Prior to joining Natixis, he was a vice president in the Mortgage Trading and Finance Group at Credit Suisse First Boston, working primarily on subprime and second-lien whole loan trades and securitizations. Before joining Credit Suisse, Derek was a vice president in the Asset-Backed Securitization and Finance Group at UBS/Paine Webber, where he concentrated on auto leases, credit card receivables, aircraft leases, franchise loans, and mortgages. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and holds Series 7 and 63 securities licenses.

Chris Kennedy Christopher Kennedy
Managing Director
Christopher Kennedy is focused on increasing awareness of MountainView IPS and enhancing the company’s valuation services. Mr. Kennedy works closely with asset management firms, financial institutions, specialty finance companies and government agencies to ensure that they are receiving the independent/third-party reports, opinions and insights needed to achieve their business objectives. Chris joined MountainView IPS from Equifax, where he was Director, National Sales Consultant – Capital Markets Division. Chris previously held sales roles at Compass Analytics, Republic Mortgage Insurance Company, and Tuttle Risk Management Services, as well as a Senior Fixed Income Analyst position at GE Capital Mortgage. He began his career with Deutsche Bank Alex Brown. Chris holds an MBA degree in Finance and International Business, with a concentration in Investment Management, from Drexel University, as well as an AB degree in Political Science and Economics from Syracuse University.

Matt Maurer Matt Maurer

Matt Maurer is responsible for providing residential mortgage servicing rights and whole loan sales advice, portfolio valuation, finance facility consulting, and risk management services. Mr. Maurer, prior to moving over to his current role, was an MSR valuation analyst at MountainView. Before joining MountainView in 2008, Matt worked at Clayton Fixed Income Services and Matrix Asset Management. He graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and a minor in Economics.
Jonas Roth Jonas Roth
Managing Director
Jonas Roth’s primary responsibilities include sourcing residential whole loan portfolios and identifying trading opportunities for the MountainView Mortgage Opportunities Funds. Mr. Roth also works with clients on the valuation, sale and purchase of residential mortgage servicing rights portfolios. In this role, Jonas acts as an intermediary between buyers and sellers and helps them understand the value of their portfolios in the secondary market. Before joining MountainView in 2001, Jonas was one of the initial senior managers at Countrywide Capital Markets, where he helped the firm grow from 12 employees to 175 and served as national sales manager for trading of residential whole loans and securities from 1993 to 2000. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Robert Thal Robert Thal
Managing Director
Robert Thal assists clients with MSR portfolio valuation, trading and risk management. Before joining the company in 1998, Mr. Thal served as Vice President of Business Systems at Commonwealth United Mortgage and Senior Manager at Andersen Consulting, providing technology and operations consulting to mortgage banks and other financial institutions. Robert earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and an MBA from the University of Texas.
Robert Wellerstein Robert Wellerstein

Robert Wellerstein builds relationships in which MountainView provides analytic and transaction services for whole loan portfolios, MSR portfolios and mortgage pipelines. Before joining MountainView in 2011, Mr. Wellerstein worked at Banc of Manhattan Capital, where he was Senior Vice President of Whole Loan and Fixed Income Sales and Trading. Rob previously worked 17 years at Countrywide Securities Corporation, where he was responsible for sales of all fixed income products, including agency servicing portfolios, residential whole loan pools, mortgage-backed securities and Community Reinvestment Act loans. He began his career with Hamilton, Carter, Smith and Company, where he facilitated sales of FNMA, FHLMC and GNMA mortgage servicing rights and marketing of MSR portfolio valuation services. Rob earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Irvine and holds Series 7 and 63 securities licenses.
